With a lot of installing and reinstalling programs, I notice my dllcache in
System32 has grown to a bulky 447MB.

My question: To save disk space, could I burn the dllcache folder contents
to a CD-RW (regularly updated with new inclusions) and delete the folders
contents? Are there some .dll backups which need to be there all the time?

What you could do, is go to a command prompt and type:

sfc /purgecache

However, you will need the Windows XP CD to reinstall the protected
system files to the dllcache folder. Do not run /purgecache if you don't
have that CD!
