dll-entry point-restore errors

I'm a home desktop user with enough knowledge to be
dangerous. I suspect invasion from slammer worm due to a
denial of service condition and significant memory
leakage. I have entry point errors, GetIUMS, rstrui, and
rundll errors. I cannot restore (rstrui error). I have
performed an XP repair reload. Yesterday, Noel pointed me
to a sql3 patch as a possible fix, but it didn't.

I'm prepared to reinstall XP. Will this fix my problem?

Hi Wally,

Do you have all the critical patches for your OS
installed? Do you have a firewall installed and
activated; or absent a third-party firewall, do you have
the Win XP firewall activated? Do you have anti-virus
software (currently updated) installed and enabled?
Suggest you take the above actions, if you can't answer
with a "yes". When was the last time you scanned your
machine for viruses, worms, and malware? Whatever action
you decide about a clean installation of the OS, PROTECT
your machine to avoid as much as possible a repetition of
your woes

Yes to all. All updates, etc. All scans come up negative.
My suspicion regarding slammer worm is due to my
symptoms. I'd like to know if reinstalling XP along with
the appropriate safeguards, will get me back to an
connected operating condition. Thanks for any advice.

Hi, Wally,

Possibly repair of some sort is in order.
Before taking repair actions, it might be well to do some
studying. The Elder Geek
has provided good advice here:
http://theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm.
Links to XP Clean Install are located to the left of the
page. Please take close note
of what is required to bring your computer back up to
full protection with each
installation choice. Also, be sure to note what happens
with your data with each
approach.
HTH and Good Luck!
