Divx compatability issue

I recently upgraded the divx software on my computer. I previously had
version 5.2.1. That worked great with movie maker. I upgraded to divx play
version 6.1.1 (ish). The codec improved so i could rip video from dvds
LEGALLY OF COURCE. However, windows movie maker crashes when opening projects
that used a divx-avi file and also crashes when importing one. (By crash, I
mean freeze and CPU usage goes to 100%). What is strange though is that the
divx-avi files that are already imported, still work. Note that I am on a
laptop and if this means get a better CPU, it will be very difficult, if not
impossible. Oh, and I have Windows XP Home SP2.

I have not installed divx6.1.1 so this is a bit of a shot in the dark
It sounds like the old codec is still used by mm2.

1. Get 'gspot' and run an old file and a new file through. Check the codec

2. Open the compatibility tab on MM2
tools->options[compatibility]
and check what divx codec is checked or if you have two, etc.
Try unchecking 'divx decoder filter 5.2.1....'
Restart mm2
See what happens: best case it all works......worst case is that your
old divx's cease working, in which case you go back in and recheck the
5.2.1 filter.

Hope this helps (in the crossed fingers and look to the heavens sort of
a way) :-)

It actually fixed itself now. It takes about 5 times as long to process a
file but it still works.
