I had to reinstall windows (repair install) and I lost my
distribution lists. I did save the .pst file, but I
still can't find my contacts or the email addresses of
previous sent emails. Only a partial list of my sent
emails was retrieved. I think that all of my files are
somewhere on my computer, I just don't know how to find
them. Please help. Thanks.

Open the PST file you saved. If indeed you saved a copy of your previous
PST, the information would all be there.

I opened it using the import on the file menu. Is this
the correct method?

No.
File > Open... is the correct method.

I was able to retrieve my inbox using this method.
Thanks. But, I still am missing 3 months of my sent
emails and my address book. I also do have a file called
backup.pst, but it didn't seem to help either. Any other
suggestions?

You must not be opening the correct PST file, then. Are you sure you saved
the correct PST file? If so, how? If you were opening your previous PST
file, all Outlook data would be there.

No wonder then. Exporting is not the way to back up a PST. You'll only have
the data you chose to export. You should just copy and reuse the PST, not
export it, if you want to keep all the data intact.
