distribution lists & email name display

hi - apologises if these have already been asked - i did do a search within
the ngs but no luck.

how to create distribution list without displaying the e-mail addresses
within.. eg "managers" distribution list to be displayed only.

also sometimes for e-mail address displays for 1 person it would appear as
'smith, john' or john smith without the ' used... i've search within the
properties and how i want the names to be displayed but to no avail [i have
made it to display surname, firstname].

excuse the lack of 'shift key' involvement :^)

My question has something to do with the email name display when I create a
new message and click on the To: button, the Select Names window appears.
My problem is when I have a particular contact that has 2 email addresses.
Outlook shows me 2 John Smith records. I still have to right click on each
name to find out the right email address to use. Is there a way for Outlook
to also show the email address for a contact that has more than one email?

You did not post your Outlook version.
Can't you just resize the window?

Sorry for that. I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2002. The window could not be
resized.

Yes it can. It just won't persist.
In Outlook 2002, you can also use the horizontal scroll bar to see which
address is which.

Russ is away for a few days, but I can tell you that distribution lists work
the same in all versions of Outlook.

Hi Russ -

On the verge of giving up my search for an answer in any previous post,

KB, FAQs, etc. for this precise issue in Outlook 2003 - I was EXTREMELY glad
to come across the article you referred to. This solution was far more
simplistic than any I had attempted or imagined, yet a clever way to solve
the problem! My only queston is this:

The article comes from the Outlook 2000 Support Center, which is

coincidentally the only version of Outlook listed under applications to
which it applies. However, I just created the "RECIPIENT LIST SUPPRESSED"
single address/distribution list contacts - using an assortment of my own
email addresses to test it. Though I am using 2003 (on an exchange), this
appears to be an appropriate solution here as well. Are you aware of any
issues that may arise later? The only one I could think of was that Yahoo
webmail (and probably others) likes to add the email address back into the
"to" field of received messages, even after you have stripped it out of the
"display as." This was indeed the case, as the message received in my yahoo
inbox appeared to: "RECIPIENT LIST SUPPRESSED" <[email protected]>,
but obviously didn't display the actual distribution list from the BCC
field.

If this type of thing is the only issue, I think I can deal with that.

But if you know of others, I would appreciate anything else you have to
offer, as we have a strict client confidentiality code at my company.
