Distribution List Sort

Is there a way to sort the names in a Distribution List?
When I open up the distribution list it displays the
contact as John Smith. I would like the ability to sort
by Smith, John.

It depends on which version you are using. In some, DL's will follow the
sort order of the Outlook Address Book. In others, you have to manually
change the Subject field to change the sort order.
 
I am using Outlook 2003. When you say the Subject field,
do mean changing the "Display As" field to be Smith,
John - then the name field will be sorted by last name.

No. The Outlook Address Book will use either "FN, LN" or the "Files As..."
field for sorting.
If setting it to sort by the Files As... field does not work, you will need
to modify the Subject field of the Contact. You'll have to add that field to
a Table view of your Contacts since it is normally hidden.
