Distributed Link Tracking

I'm looking to upgrade my domain from 2000 to 2003. Part of the best
practice is to disable the DLT Server service. Is there anyway to tell the
ramifications if I disable this? There are thousands of objects in my
ObjectMoveTable OU. I disable the server service, will it only affect new
(moved) files, or would it also affect machines using current links?

Would it be safer to have a GPO disable the DLT client service on all of my
workstations first?

Thanks

I'm comfortable with domain upgrade process since I've already read the KBs
mentioned. I was wondering specifically about the DLT service since there is
a KB that talks about the service, but not how to tell if users are using it
and the ramifications of disabling the service IF it is being used.

Any reason not to modify my default domain policy to disable the DLT client
on all machines? The server service has been disabled on all DCs for two
weeks with no complaints. I would prefer workstations not trying to query my
DCs.

Thanks!
