Can a W2K Server running in a workgroup serve as a DFS
Root with 2 NT 4.0 servers as leaves?

For DFS to replicate automatically, a domain is required. If the root
server is a Windows 2000 server, then the domain will have to be an Active
Directory domain, as opposed to an NT4 domain. Given your situation, I see
no reason that the DFS links can't be on NT4 servers as they are basically
just links to a UNC. I haven't been able to find any diffinitive
documentation on it though. My suggestion is to try it and let us know.
Since there won't be any automatic replication, the differences in the FRS
services between NT4 and Win2k won't be an issue. You'll need to make sure
the permissions for the Everyone group are set as you want on the NT4
shares.

Let us know how it turns out!
