After booting up my PC it hibernates just fine, either manually or by the
timer function. But after a fer hours of use, it no longer hibernates! All
text referring to "Hibernation" disappears. Nothing remains in the Control
Panel - Power Options box.
Is this a Windows XP problem or is it something in the mother board?

In case it's relevant to your problem, I strongly suspect that some of the
more recent motherboard bios features such as "Superboot" and "Fastboot,"
which apparantly save parts of the XP windows environment, ...specfically,
at least, on Asrock / Asus motherboards - I suspect can interfere with
Windows XP hibernation. I've no proof of this but, hibernation problems, a
while ago, on Dads Foxconn 760GXK8MC based PC, appeared to be solved by
switching off "Superboot" in bios.
(...btw Bios option "Suspend To RAM" needs to be enabled - I discovered a
little while ago).

It's an Intel D945GCCR motherboard. I'll check for bios updates and look at
the bios settings.
