Dissapearing icons

Hello
XPSP2 etc
For quite a while now the icons to the right of the task bar
where the date lives sometimes does not display all the icons
of progs I know start with windows.
Even the little speaker refuses to appear and I cant adjust the sound.
Where are they kept? Or any other thoughts would be helpful.

Right click on the Start Button and choose Properties. On the Taskbar tab,
clear the box at the bottom that says Hide Inactive Icons.
Let us know if that sorted the issue for you.

That 'Hide ' box has never been ticked but I ticked it anyway and applied,
then i unticked and applied again. (This is how I get the speaker icon back)
but no joy. Its not a big deal just niggling.
