Disppearing emails

Dear All,
I use Outlook 2003. It happens sometimes that the semi-transparent pop-up
appears telling me that an email has arrived. I search my inbox and can not
find it. I check my webmail and I am not mistaken The email is still on the
server.
What is happening?

I eventually found it in the 'deleted folder' . There were no filters
relating to this sender so why did it end up there?
 
because some other rule is deleting it?
