Under XP Home, in a cmd window, I issue ipconfig /all and
nothing displays. I get a line of text the
displays "Windows XP IP Configuration", a couple of
blanks, then tha command prompt again.

I am trying to determine the MAC id of the PC's nic.

Suggestions as to what's happening?

Alternative way to view the mac id - short of opening the
box?

Thanks,

Stephen

Make sure that the network connection that uses the NIC is enabled and
that the nic is actually connected to something.
