Hope somebody has a solution, suggestion.

Using WINxp Home SP2.
Have been having a problem booting the computer after it has been shutdown
for a long time,
ie, overnight.
When I turn on the monitor, computer it doesn't show the display on the
monitor screen
I need to turn off the monitor, computer sometimes more then once then the
BIOS displays and
then windows etc. If I should turn off the computer, monitor after it's been
on any length of
time the display screen will appear immediately.
Thought it might be a fault of the monitor I sent it to Viewsonic since it's
under warranty,
now I am using a spare viewsonic LCD monitor, other monitor also LCD,
larger.

Now I discovered a wrinkle. Seems If I just momentarily push the on button
on the computer
the display appears instantly.Does the amount of pressure on the on button
have an effect
of the display, or should I suspect the on button switch or may be the video
card.

Using ATI Radeon 9600.

Driving me nuts, suggestions, comments
Thank you.

One thing that I do is to not turn off my computer overnight. I make sure
that the computer is NOT connected to the Internet. My monitor hibernates
after ± ten minutes of no activity -- I can activate the monitor by pressing
a letter on my keyboard or moving my mouse.

Your computer is not hibernating. It is going into standby mode. Hibernating
turns off all power
so a key depression or mouse movement cannot activate anything.

In control panel under power options in the advance tab under power buttons,
there is a choice,
do nothing, ask me what to do, stand by,and shutdown, in the box titled,
"When I press the
power button on my computer".
Some how shutdown was selected.
Would this have an effect with the problem I am inquiring about.

I am a bit confused now. You stated 'when I turn on the monitor it doesn't
show the display'. What is the condition of the computer? Is it running? Why
was the monitor off? Are you booting?

The monitor is on , the computer according to HD function light is booting
and CD, Floppy lights and DVD also show function.

Barry Karas,
Bit of a green horn in some respects regarding hibernation.
How do you disconnect your computer from the Internet and set up your
computer to hibernate. I use Comcast with a cable modem.
Thanks for all who replied.
