As of today the Display tab in Desktop Properties no
longer works and so won't display wallpaper settings
etc. All the other tabs work fine.

I have restored Windows XP back a couple of days when I
know it did work but that has had no effect. I can't
find a Knowledge Base article that would seem to solve it
either. Has anyone any ideas on how I can fix this?
What file may be affected/corrupted etc.

Many Thanks

Thanks for that.

I should have said what was happening. The display tab
is still there and visible. When you click on the
Display tab there is no response - it doesn't even show
you the wallpaper options etc, the Display Properties
window just hangs and stops responding. However all the
other tabs work fine.

Hi Paul,

If the "desktop" tab in the Display Properties dialog
box is missing, you may download and run this edit:

Sorry, but there is no fix for this problem. I am working on a machin
which was upgraded from windows 98 to xp pro. I've tried many differen
driver versions for the onboard ATI RAGE PRO LT. The drivers have openg
support and all the tabs are still gone! So that's proof that Microsof
Knowledge Base Article 283751 is full of BS. And more importantly
nearly 4 years after posting that article and having released SP2 fo
XP, THIS PROBLEM STILL REMAINS UNFIXED! It remains so unfixed, that th
only solution seems a complete XP reinstall. Complete reinstall of O
with reinstallation of all software would take several days on this pc
and the client will not go for that.

I cant believe that installing SP2 over this installation will not fi
the problem.

And yes, of course I've checked all the registry entries and there ar
no settings that prohibit the tabs from being shown.

I've tried also some programs that claim that they can fix this... an
they can't.

So much time has passed since this problem has surfaced. THERE IS STIL
NO SOLUTION?! AHHHRGH!! BIG THUMBS DOWN TO MS FOR THIS BS.
