Display resolution doesn't stay set

When I change my resolution from 640 to 1024, it works for current and all similtaneous users. But if I reboot (restart or turn off) the resolution always returns back to 640.

1. How can I make this stay permanent
2. Is there something in Regedit I could look for
3. Is there a Bios parameter (such as searce for flash binaries) that will affect how this does or does not work

Some History

I had this problem while using NVDIA graphics. I am attempting to migrate to ATI Radeon. I had to remove the NVDIA card and device drivers and plug into the onboard INTEL 82815 because I had to load that chipset upgrade before install the new hardware/software. I had hoped that during my efforts to install old graphics and/or new graphics that this problem would go away. But it did not

The current state of my graphics device is the onboard INTEL

Walt, don't listen to me - I have no idea. I just wanted to mention
that I have never seen a 640 x 480 setting to move the slidebar to in
Windows XP. The lowest setting I have seen is 800 x 600.

Man, that's a radical jump (640x480 to 1024x768). Personally, I
can't stand 1024x768 or higher. 800x600 seems right.. And I have a
21 in monitor...

If you, or anyone, tries or uses 800 x 600, use F-11 to get a full
screen for better length on the web (width is almost never a problem -
everything always seems to fit). Toggle back and forth when you need
the additional commands. Or I find this even better - load the full
screen icon into your toolbar (right click your IE toolbar in a blank
space, then "customize"). If you engage this icon you get a full
screen (same as your F11 key) - only a one icon thick toolbar at the
top. Put the full screen icon in the middle of the toolbar for easy
access when going to full screen, for easy toggling up & down, & when
you open a new window, it is there in the middle, even if the new
window is small.

Thanks for the tips, but I really need someone to help me out on this one

I think that I orginally screwed up when I attempted to install ATI Radeon and all of it's drivers. I went to theire web site and down loaded the last XP drivers and installed them. When things didn't work right, I re-imaged my C drive from a Paragon full backup. Before booting I removed the video card and plugged into onboard video card (intel 82815). Went to Intel and got the latest driver (as well as their latest bios) and installed. BUT IT STILL DOESN'T STAY SET

I need to find out what is wrong and how to fix it, so when I screw it up again while installing the ATI card, I can be more proactive.

Any body from MS (or Intel) that has any ideas

Thanks

Walt
