My operating system is windows xp professional, one day i
logged onto pc and all my windows and toolbars were in
windows classic format. So i opened my display properties
in control panel, opened up the 'apppearance tab' and
clicked on the drop-down box called 'windows and buttons',
usually i should be able to choose from either 'windows xp
style' or 'windows classic style', but all there was to
choose from is 'windows classic style'. Could you please e-
mail me back a.s.a.p. with a solution for this problem,
thanks very much,
Bobby.

Try setting everything to the classic theme (theme, colour etc) then reboot
your machine. After reboot check to see if the other options are available.
I am just getting this problem, but i am currently using xp service pack 2
beta. I thought it was an sp2 problem, but obviously it isn't. All i do, at
present is adjust the settings to classic theme and then reset back to xp
theme after a reboot.
When did this start happenning? have you installed any updates that may have
caused the problem?

Try right clicking on your start button and go into properties. there you will see tabs called taskbar or start menu......in the start menu u will see - start menu or the classic start menu change it to just start menu

Bobby,

Control Panel
System
/Advanced\
Performance-[Settings]
/Visual Effects\
(*) Custom
[Y] Use visual styles for windows and buttons

Set the "Themes" service to running via...

[Start]
Run
services.msc
[Enter]

Navigate to "Themes" service
Startup Type: [ Automatic ]
[Apply]
[Start]
[OK]

Now, in Control Panel
Display
/Appearance\
"Windows and Buttons"
you should have a choice of "Windows Classic Style" and "Windows XP Style"

If that does not help, then I suggest you read
