If I go to Display Properties - Desktop Tab in addition to the images listed
in C:/WINDOWS/Web/Wallpaper, there are listings from My Pictures. I did not
put them there and do not know how they got there. This happened once before
and somehow they got removed seemingly without my help, but now they are
back. I tried following a post that said something to the effect that I
should move the My Pictures folder to a CD and never again press the Browse
button on the Display Properties Menu - Desktop but it did not remove the
pictures from the list. Then I put My Pictures back on my hard drive.

By design, all images in your My Pictures folder
will be available in the Desktop Background list.
If you wish to remove your images from this list
all you have to do is move the images to a different
folder outside of the My Pictures folder. A New
Folder in My Documents...for example.

To move the contents of your My Pictures folder...
open the folder and go to...Edit / Select All...
In your "Picture Tasks" pane...choose "Move the
selected items"...

On your "Move Items" screen...choose or create
a new folder and left click the "Move " button.

I have noticed that if I exceed 100 images in My
Pictures the files no longer show in the Background
list. There may be a way to edit this number but I
don't know how.

If you wish to delete all the images in your My
Pictures folder...open the folder and go to...

Edit / Select All...
File / Delete...

When the dialog box says...

Are you sure you want to send these XX items to
the recycle bin?

Click "Yes".

with I can move My Pictures to another folder on my computer and then they no
longer appear in the Display Properties Destop tab; however I need them to
remain in the My Pictures folder in order to use my MS Digital Image program.
Furthermore, I do not believe the default is as you say it is because for
years I was not getting all my pictures in the display properties desktop
tab. Any further suggestions will be appreciated.

I use DIS 2006 Editor and Library and I store my photos in a folder other
than My Pictures.

How you set up DIS 2006 to catalog is up to you.

You can change defaults as you wish.

Take charge and don't be bullied about by some program's defaults.

John is correct that the default for Display Properties pictures is My
Pictures folder.

John is not in the habit of posting incorrect information.

As I mentioned, my display properties previously did not list all my pictures
in the desktop tab. That is why I questioned John's statement re the
default. Since my last post I recalled that I had a bunch of bmp images that
I changed to jpeg. I thought this may have been part of the problem so I
went to my pictures and changed just one of them back to a bmp and lo and
behold, I no longer have any of my pictures listed in the display properties
- desktop tab.

I have a Wallmaster program where I can also select different wallpapers.
Previously they were all marked jpeg with the exception of the one that was
open on the desktop and it was marked bmp. For some reason unknown to me,
all Wallmaster images are marked jpeg including the one that is open on the
desktop.

Strange

I have a mixture of *.bmp and *.jpg in My Pictures folder root and they all
show up in Display Properties>Desktop>Background.

Re quote in your post: John is correct that the default for Display
Properties pictures is My Pictures folder.

I have a group of images in C:/WINDOWS/Web/Wallpaper and it is my
understanding that if I put any images from My pictures folder in the above
folder they too will be listed in Display Properties - Desktop. If I click
on the Browse button in Display Properties - Desktop tab I can go to the My
Pictures folder and add an image to the Display Properties Desktop list that
way. (I believe this is what is meant when you say the pictures from the My
Pictures folder are there by default.) What I meant was they they are not
automatically all listed there. Is it the same for you?

I also believe you can have jpeg and bmp files in My Pictures, but when I
decided to make all the bmp files jpeg files because they take up less space,
I believe that is when I ran in to trouble with the Display Properties and I
changed one back and everything not listed in C"/WINDOWS/Web/Wallpaper was
listed and nothing more.

Only those pictures in the root of My Pictures show up.

Those in folders do not show up.
