I am using a Philips 170W4 display ( this is a wide screen flat panel
display) I have checked the drivers of both display and graphics card yet
objects seen on the display are out of shape. IE squares are elongated and
circles look like eggs !!!!
I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this but no luck as yet.
My graphics card is a radeon X700 pro but the adjustments on that dont help
either. Could this be a windows issue ?

1. A Google search tells me that the native resolution of that LCD is
1280 x 768. Are you using that native resolution?

2. A Google for your card indicates that it is "optimized for
wide-screen resolutions" so I expect it can handle 1280 x 768.

So, if you aren't using the native resolution do so. If that doesn't do
the trick, update your drivers with the latest ones from ATI. And if
that doesn't solve the issue:

a. Check the monitor cable.
b. The video card may be faulty - swap out for a known-working one.
c. Check with tech support for the monitor and/or the video card.

If you need more help, then post back with more details about what
you've tried. Saying "I have tried everything" doesn't provide any
information for people to give you focused help.

Does the video card software (Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced) have
an option for normal and wide screen display modes?

_____

In [Control Panel] double click on the 'Display' icon.

Click on the [Settings] Tab in the 'Display Properties' sheet.

Set the [Screen resolution] slider to the native resolution of your LCD wide
screen display.

Click on [Apply].

Click on [OK].

The native resolution for your display should be in the documentation that
came with your monitor. It should be something like 1280 X 768, a ratio of
5:3. If it is incorrectly set to1280 X 960 (a 4:3 ratio) a circle will be
displayed as an oval with the long axis vertical.

Ok, display properties show the correct display and the correct resolution
ATI catalyst control shows the correct display and resolution. I have
downloaded lastest drivers for both display and Catalyst control. refresh
rate is also correct. I have un installed both drivers and re installed but
with no luck. This was working OK prior to my hard drive crash so I know its
a supported display !!!! anything in the BIOS that could be causing this ?
