I have a new Dell and a flat screen. My display is hard to read in Word. I
have tried adjusting the pixels in "settings for display", but it doesn't
help. In the settings windowfor a monitor it gives "Play and Plug." My
monitor is a dell product that came with the computer.
Is this a problems with Word? Or what do I try next?
Thanks

"Hard to read" how? Size or blurriness? I don't know what "adjusting the
pixels" means.

Flat panel monitors have a native resolution. A 17" might be 1024 x 768,
a 19" might be 1280 x 1024. Your new monitor from Dell came with a
clear plastic overlay on it when you took it out of the box that said
what the native resolution is.

Set the resolution to that number from the Display applet's Settings tab
in Control Panel.

Still in the Display applet, go to the Appearance tab and click the
Effects button. From the drop-down menu select "ClearType". Apply and
OK. You can also download a ClearType power toy tuner:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

If the size of the fonts/icons is too small, you can adjust that in the
Appearance>Advanced section. Make one change at a time and test after
each change.
