Display Names

I need to have the display name in the format:

Last name, First Name Middle Initial. - Department

I have seen the KB articles where the first and last name
are formatted, but since i don't know the variable name
for the middle initial or the department, I cannot include
them... any ideas where i can get a list of variables for
this sort of thing.... or does anyone know offhand what
the variables are for those two items???

This is a two step process. The first step is to change
the existing users from presumably First Name Last Name to
Last Name, First Name Middle Initial and then to set it up
so that all newly created users follow this. I know, I
know, I am leaving off the part about the Department!

Take a look at Mark Fugatt's article located at

In it he includes the link to a wonderful utility called
ADModify. I use it all the time ( used it today, for
example ).

As to the 'Department' - I would think that you might be
able to make use of one of the "Custom Attributes" but I
am rather inexperienced with them so I hesitate to offer
any assistance there.

Hopefully, this information will be able to get you on
your way.
