Display Name Error

Occasionally, when I log into Windows Messenger (v4.7.2009), my display
name is shown as a (seemingly) random one from my list. Sometimes I have
to sign in 3 or 4 times before Messenger will show my own display name as
opposed to that of one of my contacts.

Have trawled the 'net and cannot find anything pertaining to this
anomaly. Apologies if I am posting re a comoon problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings Glm,

No, this is the first I've ever heard of such a thing. Which "list" are you referring to
that it's grabbing the name from however?

Thank you, Jonathan.

I am referring to the standard list of contacts, sorted by on-line/offline
status. The following is a partial screen-shot, showing the Messenger
panel:

One example might be that when I log on, my name, instead of appearing as
'Glm', reads 'Fairydust'. If I log off, it might change to another name
on my list; or back to 'Glm'.

I have experienced this problem for a while now; all on the same machine,
but both before and after a clean installation of Windows.

Not sure that it helps, but I have East Asian languages installed, and
quite a fwe people on my list have display names in Chinese script. I am
connecting using .NET Passport.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
