display formatting codes in Word XP

I have been using the Document Map feature to navigate through a long document of mine ( about 150 pages). The document is divided into chapters whose titles are each formatted as "Heading 1." In spite of this, there are still several other places (beginnings of sentences, etc.) that appear on the document map. How can I view the formatting of a particular line of text so that I can either add formatting that should be there or take away some that isn't?
Thank you very much
Rich

From the Tools menu, select Options and then go to the view tab and set the
style width area to say 12mm (or the equivalent in your units of measure)
Then switch to Normal view and you will see the style assigned to each
paragraph in the left margin.

That has nothing to do with the question. Please make sure of the advice
that you are giving before posting. In this case, the thing to do is to set
the Style Width under Tools>Options>View

Track Changes is about providing an indication of those areas of a document
that have been revised by adding or deleting text, etc.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/RevealCodes.htm for some other ideas
in addition to the Style Area.

Have you tried the "Track Changes" feature which can be found under the
Tools Menu?
