display driver

I have a nvidia gforce 3 ti 200 and windows update has a
display driver update and when I installed it the
desktop looked "sycodelic" as if it were in safe mode.
apparently the driver is not compatable unless there are
some settings that need tweaked.I rolled back to the
previous version. Any ideas. Thanks
