Display Area problem

Actually, my dad is having the problem - he called me - and I wasn't sure how to fix it...

He has a "2 inch border" all the way around his active desktop - i.e. the "Start button" is indented 2 inches to the right and 2 inches up... several weeks ago, I showed him how to adjust his screen RESOLUTION, but this isn't the same issue... his desktop is filling only the center of his screen, with a black "inactive" border all the way around it. We want to try to get his desktop back to filling the entire available screen.

I seem to remember (perhaps?) in older versions there was a type of slider (similar to the screen res slider) that functioned to set "display area"... I can't find this on XP.

Is there another way to make his desktop "fit" his available monitor display size??

Please help. Thanks a bunch.

Check the monitor buttons. They have the means to expand the verticle
and horizontal. If they dont work the monitor is likely going bad.

Greetings.

You mentioned that you showed him how to adjust his screen RESOLUTION. You
adjusted this setting by going to the Display Properties-->Settings Tab and
adjusting the slide to 800x600 or 1024x768? You can also adjust a different
types of settings on the monitor itself. There should be some buttons on
the monitor that will allow you to stretch the screen upwards and downwards
or even rotate the screen. Usually this button or buttons is on the front
near the power button. If he were to stretch the screen upwards and
downwards, this should remove the black border.
