Does anyone have any idea why diskpart.exe CLEAN would not be working?

Are there any size limitations?

Program has been working fine for 2 years, we are changing our
hardware and this new drive is giving diskpart.exe trouble. IDE drive
128 Gig

DISKPART> select disk 0 // fine
clean // hangs

Any suggestions appreciated!

I have seen this once.

One of HDD's was different(damaged) from others in the same series.

I have not investigated what was wrong with it.

But HDD's of this size are working correctly with diskpart.

If you have another disk lying around try it.

There is limitation of 127 GB (24bits). For over 127GB (48bits) you must have the suitable BIOS, OS, IDE.

The drive is 200GB - Diskpart is reporting 128GB! (the limit apparently!)

If diskpart.exe CAN handle drives this large where is the problem?

I instaleld XP Professional fine so the IDE and BIOS support must be there?

Is it the OS? Can WinPE handle a drive this size?

Thanks,
JP

Distilling this down...

Boot off WinPE disk and run diskpart.exe on 203 Gig drive and diskpart
is reporting it is 128G.

BIOS says LBA, ATA, 100, 203G - which is correct (based on posts)

Thoughts?
