Hi,
Diskeeper can be configured to silently optimize the filesystem for the specific OS; now I
wonder whether the criteria are the same for the Vista x64 Business and Windows XP Pro x86 -
i.e. if there is a partition that both systems use, should I allow Diskeeper to use IFAAST on
it from both OS'es?
I'm assuming you have Diskeeper 2007 for Vista and also DK 2007 for XP.
I have Diskeeper 2007 Pro Premier for Vista and use the Automatic Defrag
and IFAAST. I only have those enabled for Vista's partition. I could be wrong,
but it doesn't make much sense to me, to have IFAAST active for other partitions
other than for the one you're using for your main OS. Also, if you are booting back
and forth between XP and Vista, I would disable Diskeeper's automatic defrag
from XP's side if you have it installed there, too. I don't run automatic defrag
on my external hard drives, I prefer to do it manually. I have a couple of virtual machines
on my externals, and I just don't want automatic defrag trying to doing anything
if I have them active.
Personally, I would handle all defragging options from Vista's partition.
I definitely would not defrag Vista from XP's partition. As you say,
the "criteria" may be different.
Email Diskeeper support and ask them. I'm really going on what seems to
make sense to me. I could be wrong.
I think it's been about two weeks now with DK 2007 Premier w/IFAAST
active on Vista, things really do seem a bit snappier. Maybe my imagination,
at some point I'll test to see.
