I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but there is no "defrag" group.
Does anyone have experience with this program? It's supposed to be good. Is
it?
I have a file server machine with no Internet access; does it require
Internet activation?
Tks.

What about NTsp6a server?
I can't find ANY defrag program there!! Where is it?
-Pete

There are no defragmenter shipped with any NT4 versions. You will have
to use a third party defragmenter.

I have experience with Diskeeper 10, I use it on all of my machines and sell
it to my customers, the program does popup with a register window after
installation but you don't have to register just click cancel.

On the first run it will try and connect to the net and see if you are
running the latest version, again if you have no internet connection it can't
check.

So a quick answer is YES you can use Diskeeper 10 without an internet
connection.

Haven't upgraded to Diskeeper 10, but am using v9 and it works very well.
Version 9 did not require online activation.

The built in defragmenter in win2000, xp and 2k3 was based on
diskkeeper. They were the first to design one for the NT kernel.
Microsoft bought their APIs.

Disskeeper is decent, not spectacular. It beats the win95/98/ME
defragmenter, but it's not much better than the built in one for XP.
(it is essencially the same product)

No, you can do the phone activation.

As in xp doesnt show defrag in tools menu...You can always open cmd,
type:Defrag C:

No you can't in XP (win9x only). Unless it's a third party program you
installed.

In XP it's referencd to in several spots.

THe qiuckest is open my computer, or windows explorer, right click on
the drive in question, select properties->tools->defragment now.

I just purchased two versions for two machines. The previous edition for our
NT server, and vers.10 for my machine.
Seems like a fun utility. Anyway, that's where things stand.

As far as I can tell, no activation is needed at all.

Actually, MS took at look at the defrag kernal hacks that Executive Software
made for pre NT4 and re-wrote them to be safe.

Legally safe, or programaticly safe?
