in case of disaster [like surge strike]

1st scenario:
mb is destroyed, but harddisk is left untouched is it posible to move
harddisk with xp to new box [same proc, same mb type] and boot?
or is neccessary to make a fresh install of xp on a new box with new disk,
and later try to copy doc & sett folders from old disk to the new? and also
reinstall all apps again?

2nd scenario:
mb & proc is ok, but harddisk shows mechanical weaknes [data are still
readable, but is better to put new disk], is there some way to make disk
image and transfer it to new disk [same or diferent type & sizie]?
again, doc & sett is easy to backup & restore on new disk, but what with
installed apps [need to be installed again], also what with xp instalation
[need to be installed fresh again]?

any advice?
thnx.

You should reinstall Windows, but you do not need to reinstall your
applications in this case.

Get a disk imagiung tool like Norton Ghost and copy the data to the
new diskl. That's all.
