I have several disks to install on my P4C800-E DELUXE.

One SATA150. I am going to use this as my XP and APs drive.

I have two IDE 160GB drives. (ATA100s)
One CD-CW drive.
One DVD-RW drive.

What would be the best sequence to cable these?

Thanks,
Jim

Depends on whether you will two of the ATA drives at once and need maximum
throughput. If you will use 2 of them at once (like copying files from one
to other), then they should be on separate cables, rather than master/slave
on the same cable.

At one time it was not advisable to put a CD-ROM on the same cable as disk
drive, because they could not operate at different speeds on the same cable.
This is no longer true, and an ATA-100 drive can operate a full speed
(DMA-5) when the slave drive on the same cable is operating at a slower
speed like DMA-4.

Also, when you install XP it will make the first IDE drive the c: drive,
even when you install XP to the SATA drive (this will be the system disk).
What this means is the first IDE drive must be the boot disk in the BIOS.

Good point. It might be better to install XP without attaching the IDE hard
drives. If you use XP with SP2 slipstreamed, then you will have not a
problem. Then after the install, you can attach cables for IDE drives.

So, if I was to put a harddrive and a CD/RWdrive on the same cable, which
one should be the master?
