I currently have a c: partition (2 gig) and a d:
partition (26 gig). How can I get back to having just one
big c: partition?.

Two options:
1) Using XP tools only: Back up important data. Delete both partitions.
Recreate a partition that encompasses the space previously occupied by C:
and D:. Reinstall operating system, applications and patches for both.
Restore your data.

2) Using third party partitioning software: Backup important data.
Repartition. Theoretically no data should be lost but restore from backup
if necessary.

Short of starting over and losing everything on your drive, you
can't do this with native Windows tools. It requires a
third-party program such as Partition Magic or Boot-It Next
Generation.
