Disk Manager

I use Drive Image 2003 to Backup my operating system (XP). Recently, I tried
to make an image but failed. Everything went as normal including getting to
DOS but at the point where the image normally is started to be made, I got a
dialog box that read as follows: Disk Manager Detected on Drive 1 but Disk
Manager is not Running." When I acknowledged the notice the computer went
into normal startup. I have not been able to use Drive Image since, it does
the same thing each time. I don't know what Disk Manager is or how to get it
running on drive 1.

Nothing new was done or no new programs were loaded that might have caused
this problem. It just started this all on it's own as far as I can tell. I
even removed and re-installed Drive Image but that made no difference. Can
someone tell me how to get to Disk Manager and how to get it running on my
drive 1?

Thanks much,
Ray

Try this tool, I think you will find Disk Manager in the list.
Autoruns from the MS Windows SysInternals site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx
This will show all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot and
selectively allow you to stop any that you don't want.

Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you may need to
highlight the item (right click) and use the 'Search Online' option to get
the details, especially useful for the more obscure items in the list.

JS

JS thanks for the help. I did go to the Elder Geek site and it looks like my
answer lies there. It seems I need to be set on Automatic. Just need to
find out how I do that. Unless you already know, I will get on his Forum and
see if I can learn something there. I do appreciate your getting me on the
right path. Keep on clicking brother.

Right click on My Computer/Manage/Services and Applications
Select the Services option, scroll down the list and select (highlight) the
service.
Now right click and select 'Properties' from the list.
The properties window will open for the service you selected, about halfway
down the window you will see an entry labeled
'Startup Type', this is where you set it to Automatic.

Thanks again JS.

I did finally figure that out and tried it. I'm sure you know it works in
conjunction with Administartive Service too. So there is actually two
enrties that needed to be in Auto. I tried that and Drive Image still did
the same thing. So I tried every kind of combination I could but nothing
worked, Drive Image still doing the same thing. Am going to give it up for
tonight but will be back at it tomorrow. If you think of anything else I can
try, would appreciate you let me know. Keep on clicking.

Thanks again,

There is no Drive Image 2003. There is a Drive Image 2002 then a
Drive image 7. Power Quest put out three updates for DI 7,
driveimage701, driveimage701A and vpro203. These are ISO
images burned to CD and then slipstreamed. My original DI 7 disk
will not work properly with XP SP2. Symantec will no longer support
Drive Image.

You're right Frank. My Drive Image is 2002. Got confused with my Norton
Ghost 2003. But I have been using DI with XP-SP2 since it came out and
before. I can't explain why it just started with the Error 91 thing. I do
have Ghost and have been able to make images with it (first time I ever used
it), so I just might use it instead of DI unless I can find a quick and easy
fix. Thanks for the time. Keep on clicking.

My DI 7.0 works in XP SP2 environment fine. Problem is in the image file
verification. Sometimes its good, sometimes not. More often, not.

Powerquest did not release the last update for DI 7.0, Symantec did. The
filename update you quoted. The release version is 7.03 for DI 7.0.

Have been using the Seagate software written by Acronis instead lately. Its
faster, verifies correctly all the time. Also created a boot CD that both
restores and images with this software, and clones hard drives. The only
thing I don't like about it is it has no option for hiding partitions when
making a clone. I use an onboard hard drive for a clone.

When I said the DI 7 original disk, I meant the original disk without
any
slipstream or updates.
I never was able to get DI 2002 to work in XP, to my satisfaction.
..
DI 7 is really getting to be a bit long in the tooth. I keep swaying on
way
and then another about purchasing Acronis True Image. I cannot affford
to upgrade to Vista I really should update my back up software.

Frank, Lil' Dave, JS and all you guys who answered my post. Thanks much. I
have read quite a lot of stuff about Error 91 and have decided that since
Symantic isn't supporting DI, I'll just junk it. Norton Ghost 2003 is doing
just fine. Although I will look into Acronis. Keep on clicking.

Thanks much
