Hi, I created a few Partition on my Vista Home Premium system and
inadvertently Partitioned an External Hard Drive and now have 18.06GB titled
Healthy EISA Configuration. My question is, how do I Merge / Combine this
unwanted partition back with the 65.86BG External Drive?
Thanks,
Bob

Thank you for your prompt response Brink, I tried "Right click on the volume
(EX: E:\ ) your want to delete and click Delete Volume" but when I view Disk
Management, I see the following "C" (which is a SEPERATE Drive that contains
the OS), and a 2nd Drive that I Partitions for , "D" (Programs), "E" Data
files, "F"(Photos), "G" (BU) and "N" (Recovery / Images), and then the 80GB
External Drive, which is labeled "H" and the 18.06 Healthy EISA Configuration.
As I previously indicated, I inadvertently created the Healthy EISA
Configuration and want to MERGE it with the "H" Drive. (which sounds like I
need to Delete and Extend) but the Healthy EISA Configuration appears to be
a Primary Partition (I REALLY screwed up when I created it) and when I click
on it, the only option available is HELP and when I click on FILE or ACTIONS,
none of them include DELETE so my followup question is how do I Delete the
Healthy EISA Configuration?
Thanks again for your help Brink,
Bob

The Vista disk management console may not be able to deal with this
partition. You may need a 3rd party program. Try Bootit NG.

http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htm

or Acronis Disk Director

http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/

You may be able to do this with the diskpart program but it is quite
complicated. It is very easy to delete the wrong partition with this
program.

Whatever you do make sure you have backups of any important data first. With
several partitions on several drives it is very easy to get confused and
make a mistake that causes data loss.

Could you post back a .jpeg screenshot of the Disk Management window ?
To post a jpeg , first use your screen capture tool to take a shot and
save it as a .jpeg .Then click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of
the thread page, and use follow 7 onward from this tutorial
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/148532-how-use-snipping-tool-vista.html

I DON'T see a Go Advance button at the bootom of the thread, what I see (on
the bottom right) are Reply, Print and Top and then after the thread ends
(bottom of the page) are:

I have the SCR shot but need directions how to POST it?
Thank you for help and sorry for not better understanding the Go Advance
instructions.

I think we may be talking apples and oranges.
I am using the MS Community Vista Users Board and i think you are referring
to the
Vista Forums Board (i.e. Welcome to Vista Forums we are your forum to
discuss Windows Vista x64 and x86 systems. Whether you need help or just want
to post an idea you have on Vista, this is the forum for you. Register at
Vista forums...the world biggest Windows Vista resource) which I was sent a
link to but have NOT registered.
Further, when I view the Vista Forum page, I do NOT see the Go Advanced
button on the bottom of the page. May be it's available to registered users
and not guests.
BTW, I used the PrintScreen button on my KB and pasted (and saved) the
ScrShot via MSPaint and also copied the page using the Snipping Tool (which I
never saw or heard of until now) so I have the image to POSt, the only
problem is I can't figure out HOW to attach the image?
Thanks again,
Bob
P.S.-Kerry Brown believes that Visa Disk Management function may NOT be able
to unscrew my screw-up

Hi Kerry, thanks for getting back to me.
This is a VERY minor problem with my External Drive where I inadvertently
created a Partition that I don't Need / Want so I view it as a nuisance.
To correct (undo what I did), I would need to Deleting the Partition that I
created and the add the Free Space back to the (remaining) Partition on the
External Drive so I don't think it makes much sense to buy a third party
program for what will essentially be a "one time deal".
Are there any Freeware programs that might be able to help in this situation?
Otherwise, I'll just keep the External Drive as 2 Partitions and move some
of the older BUs to the 16GB Drive / Partition that I created.
Thanks,
Bob

Glad that we got Posting the scan figured out, I couldn't understand why you
were telling to look for Go Advanced and I couldn't find it.
I have a Lenovo system and believe that it has a 30GB "C" Drive (Primary
Partition) that contains the OS and a 270GB Partition that is for everything
else.
I Partitioned the "D" Drive into Programs, Data, Photo and BU and recently
added another Partition for OneKey (the Lenovo Rescue / Recover) to store
System Images / System BUs, which is when I ran into the problem that I am
now having.
I alos have an External Drive that I BU my Data and Photos on a weekly basis
and inadvertently partitioned this Drive so that's where I am, trying to UnDo
what I did.
Thank you again for your help, I'll be checking the board for a reply (after
you consult with "the old bloke").
Bob

Thank you for your POST Bar-man, the system is a Lenovo (not a Dell) and the
configuration that you described (one drive your main drive contains the
system partition and six others and is working ok but shows a primary EISA
partition 0f 18.06 GB that you want to convert to free space so that you may
add it to you backup drive. Firstly the EISA drive partition is your hidden
system recovery recovery drive is almost correct). The 18.06GB EISA is what I
inadvertently created by Partitioning an EXTERNAL / Irremovable Disk Drive
(it is NOT part of the Lenovo system). If in fact this 18.06GB Drive is
Hidden System Recovery that would be very strange since as I mentioned, I
just created it (ran into the problem and POSTED a request for help).
The Lenovo Hidden System Recovery program is called OneKey and it resides on
the "C" Drive (Partition) along with the OS.
What I wanted to do was create a Drive (Partition) where I could store the
OneKey images / backups since the "C" Drive is only 30GB (for BOTH Vista and
OneKey). I confused myself and Partioned the Exteral Drive instead of
Partitioning one of the Partitions that I created on the Lenovo Hard Drive.
Hope this explains things a little better.
Bob

Please disregard the previous note (request for instructions), which IS
POSTED on the MS Newsgroup board.
Thanks,
Bob

I can't thank you guys enough for all your help and as an extra
benefit, I noticed that along the way, I "advanced" from a
newbee to a junior member. THANK YOU so much guys for ALL your
help! Although your on the other side of the pond, I think you
will appreciate when I say "Mission Accomplished" (i.e. in my
case, it really WAS accomplished).
And thank you Nigel for the tutorial on OneKey, I am "doing
battle" with Lenovo over this apparent flaw in the design of
the system. Rumor has it that they ran out of time (wanting to
announce) so they came up with this cockamamie solution by
placing the OS, OneKey and OneKey images on the "C" Drive (the
original design was for the 30GB "C" Drive to contain Windows
and the "freebies" that the packaged with the system.
Unfortunately 30GB is NOT enough space so every couple of days
(matter of fact, right now), I get an error message advising
"The free dynamic buffer in the current system is insuffiecent
(additional space required for OneKey Recovery:2435MB). It is
recommended to release the dynamic buffer by updating the Base
Backup". This only takes a minute to do but about about 10
minutes for OneKey to "capture" the image and I have to do it
every couple of days. Pain in the you know what all because
Lenovo decided that they want / need to get the system out the
door before it was ready to be shipped. I'll get off my Lenovo
bandwaggon, thank you again for ALL your help guys.
Cheers,
Bob

I've been sitting on the sidelines watching this keeping quiet as
I had nothing worth adding to the conversation. I will have add
my thanks to all for keeping up and following through all this.
It is educational to watch. If nothing else It gives me things to
advoid or how to deal with them.
