Disk Management Errors

I am running Windows 2000 service pack 4 on my network
server. When I try to run disk cleanup on local disk
drive "C", it only goes as far as "scanning: compress old
files". I also have a problem with "Error Checking" local
drive "C", it only goes as far as phase 2 and I get a
message "Windows was enable to complete the disk check".
This doesn't interfere in any way with the operation or
performance of the server, however it may be a problem in
the future. Any suggestion on how to fix or do I need to
worry about it?

If the partition is nearly full move whatever you can off it.

Run chkdisk with no parameters. If it reports problems, run it again
with appropriate parameters.

If problems persist, run the drive manufacturer's downloadable disk
diagnostic. It'll be a bootable diskette image, and will detect a
failing drive and tell you what to do about it.
