Hello,
I have a win2k Pro machine, which worked just fine until
yesterday. I havn't installed or changed anything.
For no apparent reason, my computer cannot boot to
windows. I receive the following message:
Disk I/O Error: Status = 00001000
Windows 2000 could not start because the following file
is missing or corrupt - ntoskrnl.exe
I attempted booting from the win2k disk, and repairing
the os via the Recovery console, except it appears no
command works.
First, there seems to be no response to the LOGON command.
Second, I've tried several basic commands, all of which
fails for some reason. Here are a few:
dir --> "An error occured during directory enumeration"
cd C:\WINNT --> "The path or file specified is not valid"
chkdsk /p /r --> "The volume appears to contain one or
more unrecoverable problems"
In addition, I cannot chdir/cd to any drive but C, so I
don't seen to have access via the Recovery Console to the
win2k disk.
Having all that said, is there anything I can do before
formating and clean-installing win2k (I have vital data
on my hard drive, anyway to retrieve it would be most
helpful to me).
I would be most greatful if anyone can help me.
ThanX,
Tom S.
