Disk Formatting

I have a Nero cd burner. I can't seem to find format on
the options menue. Am I missing something? Quite
frequently the machine asks me to insert cd when one is
allready iinstalled: Moreover it is quite willing to
eject the cd that it claims is not there. Please advise.
