When printing an image with high dpi resolution or
sometimes when saving as Jpeg or Photoshop. Computer
displays Disk error_36 Sorry but this is fatal. QUIT?
And then I've lost everything! 41.3Gbs free space on
disk so why is this? I've tried increasing the number of
page files. Can you help? Peter

What application are you printing from? I printed a 429mb (yes, that's
right!) PhotoShop image the other day and had no errors. I suspect you have
some error in your PhotoShop installation, but I'm a total PS novice. You
could try the Adobe newsgroups.

Search google for "photoshop disk error 36" and you'll get a bunch of
hits. Some report success with lowering (!) the amount of RAM available
to Photoshop. Before you do that, try going to your C:\WINNT\Temp\ and
deleting everything there. And even more likely, in Photoshop setup,
determine the directory that Photoshop is using for its temporary files,
and empty that out.
