disk error 39 - virtual memory

my photoshop program keeps freezing & giving me this error message -
does anyone know how to fix the root cause of my problem? running XP &
photoshop 4 - (i know... i should upgrade)

Do you have much disk space?

As TAJ says you are lost but....

Error 39 isnt normally either Photoshop or Powerpoint but corrupt secors on
your hard drive. If its affecting only photoshop part of that program may be
on the damaged sector. Try defrag etc and then reinstall maybe.

As TAJ says you are lost but....
