I have an old Apple Macintosh Classic computer (perfect condition--still
runs great) that has been sitting in a corner for a few years now. It runs
System 7 and has a whopping 40 MEGAbyte hard drive and 4 whole MEGAbytes
of system RAM, which, when coupled with it's 33 MEGAhertz processor speed
just freakin' ROCKZ.......or did when it was new. Amazing how far and how
fast computers have come.

Anyway, I have some sensitive information on the hard drive that I would
like to securely erase before......,um,......well, I have no idea what I
am going to do with this old computer but I'd like to erase my info before
it goes to the dump or recycler or whereever these things go to die.

1) Anybody have any leads on a disk eraser utility that can run from
floppy to securely delete the files I have on this old system?

2) Does anybody have any suggestions for how to get rid of this old
computer? I do not have an Ebay account.

3) Does anybody want it? Comes with a StyleWriter printer, System 7
software disks, MS Word for Mac, and MUCH MUCH MORE!!!!!
Thanks for any info.

If you decide to junk it apply a hammer to the drive:-))
If it has sensitive info that may be the best idea.

Hehe, I'm working in a molecular-biologic lab and these kind of
computers are still at work there!

Which one exactly did you find?

No, sorry. My best hint would be to delete everything and then fill up
the disk with junk data to overwrite the freed space. For example copy
your installation disks to the hard drive as many times as possible.
Repeat for better security.

try http://www.everymac.com/ I think there is a forum on the site.
You'll be surprised how many addicted still exist for that
computers...

Well, depends on the actual system. If it's at least PowerPC, I might
be interested.

40 Mb drive? The already mentioned 'hammer approach' is the best.
Anyone who takes this off your hands will swap out the drive with a
larger (most likely used) SCSI drive, pretty much straight away.

See above. No floppy required.
2) Does anybody have any suggestions for how to get rid of this

You will be lucky to get $5 for it, so transporting it to likely re-
sellers may not be cost effective.

Try posting in <alt.ads.forsale.computers> or <comp.sys.mac.forsale> or
better, regional forsale or wanted newsgroups nearer to your home town.

Or:
Leave out on kerb. You'll be supprised as to how soon it will go to a
good home.
3) Does anybody want it? Comes with a StyleWriter printer, System
7 software disks, MS Word for Mac, and MUCH MUCH MORE!!!!!

I'd add it to my colection of odd bits and pieces but living in NZ, so
would cost too much to ship here :)

Darik's Boot and Nuke
http://dban.sourceforge.net/

Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot floppy that
securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically
and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect,
which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data
destruction
