I am looking to increase my knowledge of the hard drive and in using a Disk
Editor. I have been looking for sources to help me learn how to interpret
the Hexidecimal byte values and the ANSI panels. So far I have not had much
luck in finding relevant information. I would appreciate and
recommendations for any books or websites that could be of value in learning
to interpret the date in a Disk Editor.

Thanks,
Bill

I prefer to use a disk editor that handles
all that by itself like Nortons DiskEdit.

You basically specify how you want the contents of the sector
displayed and can edit the data in the particular display format too.

Main problem is that it hasnt been updated for long file names or NTFS.

There is good computer forensics literature. However for more basic
stuff like hexcodes, I suggest you have a look into an introductory
CS text. Any I have seen so far coverd alternatives for binary
data encoding.
