Disk Drive (d) - Operability

I cannot access my 'D' drive. In checking the performance the system tells
me the all is working properly. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or
software issue. Thanks for any help you can provide.

What is the D:\ drive? Hard drive? Optical drive? If a hard drive, is it
a separate physical hard drive or a partition on a single hard drive?
What happens when you try to access it? If you get an error message,
please quote it exactly.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?
