I run Windows XP disk defrag program and it analyzises and then reports that
there is no need to defrag. Does anyone have enough knowledge and experience
to advise if this is an accurate representation: i.e. can I trust the
report.

I usually trust it because the alternative would be to spend money for
a third-party tool. Because I am satisfied with the performance of my
computers there is no need for this.
However, you could defrag nevertheless what the report says and see if
this betters anything.

you are running a ver of 'diskeeper' fr executive s/w
and you might want to chk them out
however
you might also try this routine for consistency and
confidence - ie
1/
a/
run 'chkdsk.exe' - ie note
chkdsk.exe/checkdisk -scans/repairs errors/flaws on disk
defrag.exe/defragment - reorganizes files on disk
scandisk - no longer supported/incl in windows xp
now
b/
go start/right click - my computer/open/
go right click - local disk/properties/
go tools tab/
go 'error checking section'/click - 'error chk now'/
click on - 'both options' - on dialog box/
ans 'yes' - to sched reboot/
reboot
2/
now run 'defrag.exe' which req's 15% free space to run
note
use same section/page as in 1/ above
ie
go start/right click - my computer/open/
go right click - local disk/properties/
go tools tab/ go 'defragmentation' section/click -
'defragment now'/
3/
then delete temp files - ie
go start/control panel/
go network and internet connections/
go internet options/general tab/
go 'temporary internet files' - section/
go delete files/
go delete cookies/
4/
follow this routine regularly - weekly at least - and
you should maintain clean disk
and
take it fr there

No. Download Disc Keeper Lite.

The XP defragmenter is a cut down, bowdlerised version of the full
version of diskeeper. Even then 'Lite' works better than the XP
alternative.
