disk defragmenter

i'm receiving this message when i click on the disk
defragmenter.
Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).
Click OK to terminate the application. Whats up?

Hi Tony,

Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: SFC /Scannow

/SCANNOW
Scans all protected system files immediately.
/SCANONCE
Scans all protected system files at the next boot.
/SCANBOOT
Scans all protected system files at every boot.
/REVERT
Windows XP: Return to default settings.
