I've used defragmenter several times and it worked fine.

Now all of a sudden I noted my computer locked up on some
things so thought I'd best defrag again. It only goes so
far then locks up. I absolutely can't defrag.

I've done the "check volume for errors" (auto fix file
system errors) and "recover bad sectors" and it didn't
note any problems or fixes.

I also did a system restore to some days ago and still no
luck.

Suggestions please. Thx.

Have you tried Error-Checking, My Computer, Right Click C
Drive, Maintenance Tab, Error-Checking (Scan Disk)? After
that, try defrag again. Next would be to start and run in
Safe Mode and try again. Good Luck!!!

i have the same problem, and I tried error checking and it still didn't work. I can't defrag either !
Some more suggestions please, Thanks

Try the system file checker tool. Click start, run, and
type in this here; "sfc /scannow" with that space after
the sfc. It will ask for your XP CD to copy any needed
files from, and it runs as Windows file Protection. If
you don't have a XP CD, try to borrow one from someone. I
believe you can also run this in a command prompt window
as well.
