My disk defragmenter is moving at the pace of a dead snail. Can anybody tell me why, or at least how to make it move faster? In 2 hours it only defragmented 23% of the C drive.

It takes as long as it takes. The more fragmented and/or larger the drive
is, the longer it will take.

Disk defragging times depend on many variables, such as your cpu
speed, available ram memory, how badly your drive is defragmented, how
large a drive you have, how much drive space is left, ect, ect. and on
how many progs are running at the same time as defrag. Boot up in safe
mode to eliminate these resource hogs and run defrag. Should make a
difference.
If you are thinking it should take the same time as 95 or 98, it
won't, it takes longer in XP, as it defrags not only the drive, but
puts files/folders back together also.
