Disk Defragmenter Problem

"Disk Defragmenter Could Not Start" appears when clicking
on Analyze or Defragment for the main and slave drives,
including after running scan disk on both.

I wonder if this problem could be related to any of the
recent Window XP updates since 6/26 including...

* Windows Error Reporting
* Q282010: Recommended Update for Microsoft Jet 4.0
Service Pack 7 (SP7)
* 817606: Security Update
* 823559: Security Update for Microsoft Windows
* 820291

I want to make sure it is not one of the updates before
trying System Restore, as the same problem would repeat
itself if it is associated with an update.

(Defragmenting was working about 3 weeks ago, but today
was the first time since then that this I tried to
analyze a drive with it.)

Also, Norton Internet Security was installed on 6/27, but
there have been no problems with it or with any other
program.


Btw - My PC is a one year old MatriX (Best Buy Brand).

I already ran scan disk on both drives and found no errors. So, it must be
a conflict with a recent update. Will try restore, but first hope a MS tech
will respond with what it might be in order to avoid the same problem.

Solved the problem by going into Safe Mode. (Almost forgot about since
first thought is XP's System Restore.)
