I have Windows XP home FAT32 system and my disk defragmenter will not run on
my c: drive I keep getting the following message.
The scan has been cancelled because an error occured in file:
C:\WINDOWS\KB912812
Any help thanks

Thier is one microsoft fix for defrag, read kb922379
Also, why run FAT32 file system on xp when the default is NTFS,you
can convert to it...

Removing the file at C:\WINDOWS\KB912812 could remove the problem. The
file is almost certain a log file, which will have a "log" file
extension if you examine the file properties.

cCleaner (freeware) which does a more thorough job than Disk CleanUp.
Disk CleanUp has to be run for each user profile, whereas cCleaner only
needs to be run once.

With any cleaner you need to proceed with caution. To be safe you
should create a restore point before using cCleaner. cCleaner also
offers backup before removal.

When using cCleaner think twice before checking Autocomplete Form
History under Internet Explorer. You do get a warning but this one has
irritating consequences. You may need to restore your system's
recollection of passwords after use so keep a record off computer so
that they can easily be re-entered.

Gerry, where is the 'backup' that you say CCleaner offers?
I have only seen that option when you use the 'registry cleaner' part of
CCleaner.

Tools, System Restore.

The situation seems to have changed since I originally wrote that note.
You no longer get the prompt for the Cleaner. There is a prompt for the
Registry, which can be activated in Options, Advanced. as you have noted

I will amend my next post referencing cCleaner. I am not sure there
remains a need to recommend creating a Restore Point given the type of
files being removed. However, the situation is complicated by the option
to include folders.

Thanks for pointing out the discrepancy.
