following this link: hdd c/properities/general/disk cleanup/view files-i've
found that some of the program files 'status' is either damaged or unknown
and 'total size' is none, therefore are these safe to just delete?

If I were you, I'd write to command prompt CHKDSK C: /F /X , that should fix
damaged files. Safer to delete them when they're correct.

On the subject of CHKDSK, can anyone tell me why I 'always' get errors when
running CHKDSK (not always the same ones) but 'never' get an error when using
XP's check disk gui interface (under properties-tools)?

I am running CHKDSK in a DOS window rather than booting to DOS & wonder if this
is the reason & also the reason I have never 'fixed' the errors in case this is
normal under this condition.

thanks for answering "one of the twelve" but what you suggested did not work
and the status of them remains damaged or unknown.they are all active x
controls and i'm using windows xp.

Do you mean Downloaded Program Files?

If yes, they are safe to delete. If they are needed when you go to a web
page that needs them, they will be offered for download again. Like Office
Update, for example.

Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files |
Right click each item one at a time and select Remove |
Click Yes to the message:
XXX will be removed permanently.
Are you sure?
