Hi
Why is it that after using the subject and the balances are 0 for temp.
internet files and temp. files in the subject, if I go to my compter the file
folders for these temp files are still showing files? I have selected the
appropriate boxes in the subject; should not the running of this utility
clear all the files from their respective folders? Thanks.

After you have run Disk Cleanup, you may have to restart your machine to
remove the files, trying restarting and then check if the files have been
cleaned.

Let me know if thats helpful ?

Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) *will* clean:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) will *not* clean:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | click Apply | OK. Entirely up to you, but if you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

Also: Start IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Days to keep
pages in history: 0 | Apply | OK.

Wes has given you the low down on Disk Cleanup and Temporary Internet
Files. For the Temp folder under the user's profile: Disk Cleanup removes
all temp files except those from the last 7 (or maybe it's 14) days. Reason
disk cleanup does this: To avoid files that might still be in use or needed
- install files on a reboot, for example. If you want those files removed
too, delete them manually.

Hi Sharon,

I always forget that 7 day deal. But it can be 14.

Temporary files
[[ Programs sometimes store temporary information in a Temp folder. Before a
program quits,
the program usually deletes this information. You can safely delete
temporary files that have not been modified in over a week.]]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\VolumeCaches\Temporary Files\
Value Name: LastAccess
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 7
