Disk cleanup not working

I have been trying to do a disk cleanup and it gets stuck
on calculating. It says "scanning: compressed old
files" I have run this program other times with no
problems. The support info on Microsoft says to use
something called Registry editor, but they warn that if
used incorrectly, "it can cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system". Has
anyone had the disk cleanup problem, and if so how did
you solve it. I am a little wary of using the registry
editor, because of the above mentioned potential
disaster. Please help and thanks in advance for your
input.

Will this make it possible for me to use the disk cleanup
again, or does it just shut it off? What exactly will this
do to my system? Thanks.

The file listed on the web site wil edit the registry for you. it's not
going to mess anything up. If you go delete and edit things in the registry
without knowing what it is, that will screw it up. If you read the link it
talls you evcerything you need to know.

I wouldnt use an add-on program for that, its more likely
to perform other editing that you dont want, plus whos
to say it does what they're telling you.
Go to search at microsoft.com,type:812248 Its a simple
edit.

Thanks Andrew, that was my concern also. Can you tell me
what I am actually doing to the registry? It looks like I
am deleting something to do with the compressed files. Is
this correct, and how does that affect my system? Any
input is appreciated, and thanks again for your response.

If you just delete what it says and nothing else you will not have any
problems at all. Or if you would goto Kelly's site and download and run
that file you would not have to worry about editing it, the patch will do it
for you.
