I 've notice that my disk cleanup has been acting up the
last few times I've used it! It takes a long time for it
to find files. I do defrag once a week also I clean out
temp files. I have a program called Cookie Washer from
AOL that I've used for a long time with no problems. Disk
cleanup shouldn't really have that many files to clean????

Help Please...

How long is long? Has performance degraded?
Cleanup removes/flags temp, and temp internet files, of which there could be
many

Tat,

I've experienced this same problem on many many many machines.
It's like it starts and just sits there for hours appearing to do...well NOTHING!
Very frustrating. Especially when I know I have NO temp files, NO cookies, drive is defragmented and I'm virus free....

When I've experienced this it seems to hang on "Disk CleanUp is Calculating how much free space you will be able to free on c drive" and never makes it to the NEXT screen for a very very very long time.

Is this your experience?

Thanks,

Jeff

Normally it doesn't stop responding, it just takes a long time to check the
date on all the files on your HD. I have over 250,000 files on my 3 drives,
I expect that would take a long time.

You can avoid being bothered by this by doing the following:

Start->Run->cleanmgr /sageset:9

set what you want cleaned up on a regular basis, hit OK

Now set up a scheduled task, that cleans up every week, month, whatever. In
the box "Run" where it lists the program to run, change it to:

C:\WINNT\system32\cleanmgr.exe /sagerun:9

Now it will auto clean all disks on your schedule, and you'll never see the
dialog at all.
